Brief Geological History

The geological history of the western part of Borneo, particularly within the aSDGp territory, is highly complex and remains a topic of active scientific inquiry. This region is characterised by a rich variety of rock types that are collectively referred to as the Kuching Zone. Recent researches highlight that the oldest rocks in this zone are part of the Terbat Formation, which dates from the Upper Carboniferous to the Lower Permian period, approximately 320 to 270 million years ago. Following this, the rock formations of the Kerait Schist and the Tuang Formation, associated with the Upper Triassic epoch, emerged, dating around 216 to 220 million years ago (Breitfeld et al. 2017).
